It is a section failing in the second week of December and nobody telling us, so it stays dark for a month while the owner is two hours away assuming everything is fine. Repairs are included and there is no callout charge, so the only cost of that month is that nobody said anything.

Shoreline wind is a different load from an inland gust. It is sustained, it comes with nothing in front of it, and it works at the same clip for hours at a time rather than hitting it once. Near the water we clip at tighter spacing and secure the drops and the corner returns, which are the first two places a run starts to move.
The strand itself is not the problem and never is. Commercial grade LED is sealed, it is happy under snow and it does not care about weather. What comes down is what was attached in a hurry, and on an exposed street that shows up in the first proper blow rather than in January.

Older single-storey cottage a short walk from the water, exposed on three sides. Simple design on purpose: roofline and the two shrubs at the front. The time went into clip spacing rather than into more strand, because on that street the display that survives is the one that was attached properly.
Seasonal property, owner two hours away, empty from October. Installed while nobody was there, checked once mid-season, taken down in January. The owner saw it in a photograph a neighbour sent and has rebooked for the same week.
Newer year-round two-storey with a garage return and a covered porch. Full architectural design: roofline, gable, pillars and railings. Nothing exposed enough to need special treatment, and one of the more straightforward installs in town.

Most of the town lands between $400 and $900 for the season. The smaller older cottages off Mosley Street with a single roofline and a couple of shrubs are $400 to $600. The newer year-round two-storeys back from the shore, with a garage return and porch work, are $650 to $900. Larger properties with wrapped trees or a longer frontage run $900 to $1,400. Yes, and they are worth doing for a practical reason. A lit house photographs well and December bookings are made from photographs. If the property is rented over the holidays we will work to your changeover dates rather than ours, and we will not need access to the inside at any point.

Seasonal owners should book earlier than that rather than later, because the decision usually gets made on a visit up in the fall and then forgotten about until it is December and everybody is full.
No. There is no travel charge anywhere in Simcoe County on any of our services, and that includes the far end of the beach.
It does not affect the lights, but it affects the gutters, and the gutters are what a lot of the lights clip onto. Sand and needles pack a trough solid, that block freezes, and then it is a weight hanging off every clip along the eave all winter. If it has been a while, clearing them before the lights go on is the cheapest thing you can do for the display.
