Who we are
Home Service Hunks (“we”, “us”) provides window cleaning, gutter cleaning, pressure washing, Christmas light installation, and house cleaning across Simcoe County. We are the organization responsible for the personal information described here.
Questions, requests, or complaints: support@homeservicehunks.ca or 705-718-1856.
What we collect
Only what we need to quote, schedule, and do the work:
- Your name, phone number, and email address.
- The service address, and details about the property relevant to pricing - number of windows, storeys, roof access, that sort of thing.
- Job history: what we did, when, what it cost, and what you paid.
- Messages between us - texts, emails, and notes from phone calls.
- Photos of the work area, taken before and after the job for quality and dispute records.
- Basic website analytics, and which ad or page brought you to us.
We do not store credit card numbers. Payment is handled by e-transfer, cash, or cheque, so no card details reach our systems.
Where it comes from
Directly from you - a form on this site, the instant quote tool, a phone call or text, a conversation at your door, or a Facebook lead form. Sometimes from a customer who refers you, in which case we only ever get a name and a phone number, and the first thing we do is tell you who referred you.
Why we use it
- To give you a price and book the work.
- To turn up at the right place at the right time, and to text you an arrival window the day before.
- To invoice you and keep records our accountant and the CRA require.
- To answer your questions and sort out problems.
- To send marketing - seasonal offers and reminders - but only if you have agreed to it. See below.
Texts and emails (CASL)
Canada’s anti-spam law separates two kinds of message and so do we.
Service messages are about a job you have booked: confirmations, arrival windows, a heads-up that rain is moving in, an invoice. If you are a customer, you get these. They are not marketing and you cannot be surprised by them.
Marketing messages - seasonal offers, reminders that it has been a year - only go to people who gave express consent, and we record when and how that consent was given. Every marketing message can be stopped.
To stop texts, reply STOP to any message. It takes effect immediately and permanently, and we will never reply to a STOP with another message. To stop emails, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of them.
Who else touches your information
We do not sell personal information, ever, to anyone. We do use service providers to run the business, and they only get what they need to do their part:
- Supabase - our database and login system. This is where customer and job records live.
- Twilio - sends and receives our text messages.
- Resend - sends our emails.
- Vercel - hosts this website and our scheduling software.
- Google - Maps for routing, and Google Business Profile if you leave us a review.
- Meta (Facebook) - if you reached us through a Facebook lead form, your answers come to us from Meta.
- Giftbit - issues the gift cards in our referral program.
- Anthropic and OpenAI - help draft replies and summarize notes. Their terms prohibit training on the data we send.
Some of these providers store or process data outside Canada, including in the United States, which means it can be subject to the laws of those countries. We also disclose information where the law requires it.
Photos of your property
We photograph the work area before and after a job. Those photos are part of the job record and settle the occasional disagreement about what a window or a gutter looked like when we arrived.
We sometimes use before-and-after photos in our advertising. We never include your name or address when we do. If you would rather we did not use photos of your property at all, tell us and we will not. That applies retroactively - ask and we will pull existing ones.
How long we keep it
Customer and job records are kept while you are a customer and for seven years afterwards, which is what tax and business records legislation expects. Marketing consent records are kept for at least three years after consent is withdrawn, because CASL requires us to be able to prove consent existed.
If you ask us to delete your information, we delete what we are not legally required to keep.
Keeping it safe
Access to customer records is limited to the people who need it, and our staff accounts are individually controlled and revoked when someone leaves. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by our providers.
No system is perfect. If a breach ever affects you in a way that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will tell you and the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, as the law requires.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law you can:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy.
- Ask us to correct anything wrong.
- Withdraw consent for marketing at any time, without affecting service you have booked.
- Ask us to delete your information.
Email support@homeservicehunks.ca from the address we have on file, or call 705-718-1856. We will confirm who you are and respond within 30 days. There is no charge.
If you came to us through a Facebook lead form and want that data deleted, the same email works - say so and we will remove it.
If you are not satisfied with how we handled your request, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses cookies to keep you logged in where relevant and to measure which pages and ads bring people to us. You can block cookies in your browser; the booking and quote tools may not work properly if you do.
Children
Our services are sold to adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use information we already hold, we will tell affected customers directly rather than relying on you to re-read this page.
