Commercial-grade LED strand does not mind snow. It is sealed, it is happy buried, and it will run all season under a drift without complaint. That is not the part that fails. What fails is attachment, and Springwater is where you find out.
A gutter carrying a January load pulls on every clip along it. A clip that was pressed on in a hurry, or seated onto a roof that was already cold and slick, is the one that lets go. Then a metre of strand hangs down, and from the road the whole run looks like nobody cared. It usually happens in the last week of December, which is the worst possible week for it.
West of here it is wind rather than weight. Out towards Minesing and Phelpston there is open field and nothing to slow anything down. On those properties we tighten the clip spacing and secure the drops and the corner returns, which are the first two places a run starts to move. It costs time on install day and it is the reason the display is still straight when the lights come down.
There is no single town here to describe. A quote in Elmvale and a quote outside Minesing are different jobs with different answers, and the township page cannot pretend otherwise.

Older village home close to the street with a low front roof and a covered porch. Nothing complicated and nothing needed: roofline, the porch posts wrapped, and the two shrubs by the steps. Close to the pavement means the detail is what people see, so the detail is where the time went.
Property on open ground with the house set back off the concession and a working barn beside it. Roofline alone would have been a thin line at that distance. The barn got outlined as well, which is the thing you actually see from the road, and the drops were clipped tight because there is nothing out there to break the wind.
Newer two-storey with a steep front gable and deep eaves, on ground that collects snow. All architecture: roofline, gable peak, pillars and railings. The eaves needed heavier clip spacing than the same house in town would, because of what sits on them by January.
The drive out is the same drive whatever we come for, so a property this far from town gets more out of one trip than most. Gutters cleared before freeze-up and lights hung on the same dry October day is one visit instead of two.

It varies more here than in a town, because the housing does. A village bungalow in Elmvale or Hillsdale with the front roofline and shrubs is $400 to $600. A two-storey in Midhurst or Anten Mills with a garage return and porch is $650 to $900. The larger builds around Snow Valley, and farm properties out towards Minesing where the barn or the drive gets lit as well, run $900 to $1,400 and up. One price covers lights, design, install, in-season repairs, January takedown and storage.

September or early October, and earlier than that if you are in the north or west of the township. Installs run late October to the first week of December in booking order. The snow belt does not wait for the calendar, and we would rather be clipping onto a dry roof in Hillsdale in October than a frozen one in December.
Yes, and on a farm property it is often the better spend. A house on its own at the end of a long lane is a small target. Outlining the barn, running the fence line along the lane or lighting the approach gives you something that reads from the road, and it is usually less material than people assume.
Text or call and we go and fix it, included, no callout charge, and you do not need to be there. This is worth knowing in a township where a lot of properties sit empty for part of the holidays. Nobody wants the one winter they had lights done to be the winter half of them were dark when the family arrived.
