A modern build gives you one or two long clean runs of eave, and it goes up quickly. A century home in the north ward gives you a wraparound porch, a pair of dormers, a bay window and a steep Victorian gable, and every one of those is its own small design problem. That takes longer, which is why those installs cost more.
It is also exactly why they look the way they do once they are lit. There is simply more architecture for the light to follow. A plain roofline outlined in warm white is pleasant. The same treatment on a house with real detail on the front of it is the one people slow down for.
The catch is that those are the houses nobody should be doing off a homeowner ladder. Porch roofs, steep pitches and old fascia in December are how people get hurt, and the awkward bit is always the part that makes the house worth lighting in the first place.

On a normal street your display is seen from maybe twenty metres, at an angle, by someone walking past. Fine detail reads perfectly well at that distance. On Couchiching the lake-facing side of the house is seen from across open water, sometimes from the far shore, and at that range detail simply vanishes. What survives is strong continuous line and consistent colour temperature.
So we treat the two elevations differently. Detail and texture on the street side where people are close to it, clean unbroken runs on the water side where they are not. Running the same spacing all the way round a lakefront house is the most common thing we get called in to redo.

The tidiest way to do this is one visit in late October. The gutters get cleared before freeze-up and the lights go on a dry roof at the same time, which is one crew, one ladder and one trip instead of two.

Most Orillia homes land between $600 and $1,500 for the season. A bungalow in West Ridge with a straight roofline sits at the lower end. A century home downtown with a porch, dormers and a couple of gables is mid-range, because the detail is what takes the time rather than the size. Lakefront places on Couchiching with long frontage and mature trees to wrap run higher. That one number covers the lights, the design, the install, any repairs during the season, the January takedown and storage.

Both, and in Orillia the trees often matter more. The older streets have enormous mature maples out front, and a single well-wrapped trunk and lower canopy on one of those does more for the front of a century home than another run along the eaves. We usually suggest putting part of the budget there.
