Chalet-style build with a steep front gable running two storeys. Almost the whole budget went on the architecture, because a roofline at that pitch and height is the display: it reads from the road, from the driveway and from halfway down the street without anything else being lit.
Christmas light installation in Collingwood.
Alpine rooflines carry more light than they look like they will, and a lot of this town is rented over the holidays. Both change the job. If the property has guests arriving in December, the deadline is their booking, not Christmas, and we work back from whichever date you give us.

The deadline is the booking, not Christmas
On a rented property the display is not for the twenty-fifth. It is for whoever arrives first, and around here that is often the last week of November. Tell us your first December booking at quote time and we will work back from it. It is the single most useful thing a rental owner can say to us and almost nobody thinks to.
It matters for the listing as well as the guest. December bookings are made from photographs, and a lit chalet in the photos is a different property from the same chalet in the dark. Getting the lights up before the pictures are taken is worth more than getting them up before the holiday.
Nothing about this service needs to be inside. Install, mid-season repairs and January takedown all happen outside, so there is no key to leave, no code to share and no changeover slot to work around. On a property that has guests in it most weekends that is the whole point.
An alpine roof is more roof than it looks
A steep two-storey front gable can carry more linear feet than the entire eave line of a bungalow. People are routinely surprised by a Collingwood quote for that reason, and it is worth explaining rather than defending: you are not paying for the house, you are paying for the run.
The upside is that it works. At that pitch and height the roofline is the display on its own. It reads from the road, from the driveway and from halfway down the street without a single tree being wrapped, which is the opposite of the problem we have on a flat treed lot in Midhurst. On the right house the simplest possible design is also the best one.
The one thing a steep roof does demand is heavier clip spacing. Snow does not sit on an alpine pitch, it slides, and what it slides onto is the eave and everything clipped to it. That is time on install day rather than material, and it is why we would rather be up there in October than December.
What it costs in Collingwood
Above the county average, and the reason is the rooflines rather than the postcode. Where most of the town lands for a full season:
- In-town home, roofline and porch: $600 to $900.
- Chalet build, steep front gable and two-storey face: $900 to $1,400.
- Larger place near the hill, multiple peaks and some tree work: $1,400 to $2,200.
One number covers everything: lights, design, install, any repair during the season, takedown in January and storage until next winter. No takedown invoice in the new year and no travel charge.
The kinds of property we light here
Three shapes this town keeps producing, and where the design goes in each.
Older two-storey on a mature street close to the water. Lower, simpler and closer to the pavement, so the detail is what people see. Roofline, porch posts wrapped, and the shrubs by the steps picked out.
Property let over the holidays, lit and photographed before the first December booking rather than before Christmas. Nothing needed from inside at any point, and the mid-season check happened while there were guests in the house without anyone being disturbed.
Worth doing on the same trip
If the property is being got ready for a December season anyway, the ladder is already going up. Gutters cleared before freeze-up and the glass done before the first guests arrive is one visit rather than three.

Questions people here ask
How much does Christmas light installation cost in Collingwood?
Most properties here land between $700 and $1,600 for the season, which is above the county average because the rooflines are taller and longer than they look from the driveway. An in-town home on Hurontario or the older streets near the water is $600 to $900. A chalet-style build with a steep front gable and a two-storey face runs $900 to $1,400. Larger places up towards Blue Mountain with multiple peaks and some tree work are $1,400 to $2,200. One number covers lights, design, install, in-season repairs, January takedown and storage.
Why does a steep roof cost more to light?
Because the run is longer than it looks and the working position is harder. A tall front gable on an alpine build can carry more linear feet than the entire eave line of a bungalow, and every foot of it is material and time. It is also slower and more careful work at that pitch, which is the honest reason and the one nobody enjoys saying.
The chalet is rented over the holidays. When does it need to be lit by?
Tell us your first December booking and we will work back from that rather than from Christmas. It is usually earlier than people expect, sometimes the last week of November. This is the single most useful thing a rental owner can tell us at quote time, and most do not think to.
Do you need to get inside the property?
No. Everything happens outside, including the mid-season repairs and the January takedown. Nothing about this service needs a key, a code or a changeover slot, which is the point for a property that has guests in it most weekends.
Is it worth lighting a rental at all?
For a December let, yes, and for a reason that has nothing to do with sentiment. Bookings are made from photographs, and a lit chalet in the listing photos is a different property from the same chalet in the dark. It also means the guests arriving in the second week of December find the place looking like somebody cared about it.
What happens if a section fails and there are guests in the house?
We come and fix it, included, and we work outside so nobody has to be disturbed and nobody has to let us in. If the property is managed, give us the number for whoever looks after it as well as yours, and we will take the call from either of you.
When should I book?
September, and earlier here than elsewhere. Installs run late October through the first week of December in booking order, and Collingwood fills faster than its size suggests because a lot of the town wants the same fortnight in November. If the property is rented, book as soon as you know your December calendar.
Do you charge extra to come out from Barrie?
No. There is no travel charge anywhere in Simcoe County or Muskoka on any of our services, and Collingwood is inside that.
